The FORTUNE Retirement Guide (June 26, 2006 issue) cited a Rutgers study that concludes: "The vision of a traditional work-free retirement is yielding to a new notion of a work-filled retirement."
That probably explains why Lee Kuan Yew, at the ripe old age of 83, is still up and running (though I suspect the real reasons for doing so are more obscure than what's on the surface).
And that probably explains why Singapore's aging population has been told to work longer for less money (an irony considering Lee continues to draw a salary in excess of US$1.1 million per annum).
Perhaps more ominously, the same article in FORTUNE magazine mentioned a new survey from the Employee Benefit Research Institute titled "Will More of Us Be Working Forever?"
BusinessWeek also ran a retirement guide in its recent issue, but it's focused more on planning tools, online services and investment tips.
We live in a world where we are substituting quantity for quality, clutter for information, complexity for intelligence, laborious repetition for due diligence.
