Bread talk

There's no Gardenia bread in Hong Kong and it's a shame because the most common option here is Garden bread, which looks like the cheap variety in neighbourhood bakery in Singapore and tastes like it has taken three days to reach the supermarket.

Ex-political prisoner speaks out in Singapore

I know you're fully invested (who wouldn't be, with all that money dangling in front of you?), but Janil Puthucheary, no one will vote for a person who doesn't care about his father's sufferings. You'd better watch these banned videos of the speech by Dr Lim Hock Siew, filmed by Martyn See, and go probe deeper.

+-=?

Saw this article on the front page of The Standard today. Seems like the writer cannot make up his/her mind whether to give the story a postive or negative spin. The headline screamed "Ray of Hope", but the deck immediately threw a dampener by saying "Food safety fears grow despite nuke optimism". How did that pass muster?

MM Lee's MP allowance = S$9m a year job (excl GDP bonus)?

Here's a letter I read on a forum:

11 March 2011

To: LKY
cc: PM Lee

Now I know why the MP's job is so lucrative.

For an average PAP MP, he or she probably spends an average of 4 hours per week (or less) doing his/her part-time MP job (MTP, attend Parliament, etc). This is equivalent to 10% of a full-time job (assuming a 40-hour week).

(Note: There is no shortage of "free" volunteers to do the dirty work like letter-writing, research, etc...)

So, for spending just 10% of time to get $225,000/year salary, this is equivalent to a $2,250,000/year job - even more than a minister's full-time salary! And to think that Singapore ministers' salaries are already the highest in the world, now our MPs are even better paid!

On top of that, they are also entitled to the 8-month GDP bonus! (".... A gross domestic product (GDP) bonus payable to civil servants was also extended to MPs to link their annual remuneration to the state of the economy.)

So, can I safely assume our MPs are indeed the highest paid MPs in the world?

Of course, for you, MM Lee, since you are practically an absent MP in Tg Pagar, can I assume you average an hour a week (vs the 4 hours of your PAP MPs), so your MP allowance is equivalent to a $9,000,000 a year job?

Are you humping along?

If you watch this fake infomercial for Humpilates, which combines the flexibility of pilates with the sexability of humping, you will wonder how the hell did Jimmy Kimmel manage to convince (or perhaps, con) so many A-list female stars like Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Minka Kelly, Kelly Ripa, Jessica Biel, Emily Blunt, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan and Eva Longoria to do what they did in the video.

Porn stats - go figure!

Given the numbers, you would think this is a lucrative business to be in. The downside is, many people have the same thoughts.

Same source, different predictions

The weather forecast for today in the newspapers was way off the mark. In reality, it should be something in the range of 13-16 degrees Celsius instead of 16-20 degrees published in the papers. Yesterday was equally inaccurate - the actual temperature was in the range of 14-18 degrees, rather than 16-21 degrees.

But the information came from the same source (Hong Kong Observatory). Could this be due to print delay?

What Would Walt Do?

Check out this 148 page e-book written by D. M. Miller, a project manager during the construction of Walt Disney World from 1968 to 1971. It chronicles the experiences of the young Florida engineer, whose team as responsible for the quality control of all construction materials and methods on the project. In the book, Miller suggests that Walt Disney World may be the highest quality construction project ever built.
